Dollar Discoveries and Hertz+ Site Audits: This is the project that I have enjoyed and learned from the most between my two internship experiences. I was tasked with evaluating two new micro sites that the Hertz corporation had launched in conjunction with PlacePass, one for the Hertz brand and one for the Dollar brand. The purpose of this partnership was to enhance the rewards programs for both brands and work to associate great experiences on vacation with the car rental experience. I can't speak to the specifics of what I found during my audit but I can speak to what I got out of these projects. For me, this was a great experience as it allowed me to apply what I had learned in my schooling from a marketing standpoint and the more technical side of SEO I had learned during my two internships. It also was a great experience because I was required to do a lot of self teaching. It is one thing to be handed an assignment by your boss and have a general idea of the directive and what is expected, but to just be handed two websites and to be asked for recommendations on how to improve the technical SEO, content strategy and user experience was daunting at first. However, the experience taught me a lot and was rewarding because I was able to dig into my knowledge and present the client with an honest and well received audit.
Google Post: This project was the major assignment I was allowed to own over the summer while interning for the Hertz SEO department. One of the most exciting parts about this project to me was that we were a first mover both in the rental car industry and for a company of our scale to take part in running a Google Post program. It was an amazing opportunity for an intern to be allowed to lead this sort of pilot project and have the opportunity to experiment with and set best practices for this advertising medium. From an interpersonal perspective this project also offered me a great opportunity for growth. In order to have the material for my post campaigns I had to work with the E-mail, Brand and Loyalty teams for both the Hertz and Dollar brands and convince them why this was worth the investment of their time. At first it was nerve wracking to be leading meetings with senior level employees and representing my department, but the skills I learned from that will be invaluable for my corporate career. In the end it was very rewarding to see a project my own project through from beginning to end and generate a substantial amount of revenue in my summer with an ROI in the thousands.
